Biblical Musical Instruments

An Interesting Selection Of Musical Instruments From The Bible
Music is referenced many times throughout the Scriptures. Over 1150 verses in the Bible reference music:

The bible is replete with songs which were always accompanied by musical instruments.

Music was an important part of the worship service at the temple. Certain groups of the Levitical tribes were designated as temple musicians and singers, offering their praises to God. David had a real gift of music, providing soothing harp music to King Saul when the king was distraught. David also commissioned most of the instruments and songs for the temple services. He also wrote most of the songs in Psalms, the longest book in the Bible.

Songs and poetry were also means to improve the memory, to help remember significant events or warnings. The Song of Moses is a good example of this.

From the introduction of the harp and flute early in Genesis to the song of the redeemed in God's heavenly city, music fills the Holy Scriptures.

23 String Chromatic Lyre, tuned G-F Size: 19.5" tall by 10.75" wide, Weight: 2.25 lbs. Strings are steel, with a ball end. String spacing is in general 0.5" apart at the bridges*, grouped like a piano keyboard, bi-level, tapering out towards the top to 0.75". Since the grouping does follow the piano layout, there are slightly larger spacing to delineate four groups. Since the strings are arranged in two levels, aggregate spacing is approximately 0.25". It appears that the instrument needs to be played with both hands, one hand per bridge group, on each side of the lyre. PSA027   $665.00

Nevel Lyre Harp with case Very loud biblical harp, 26", 15 nylon strings for the biblical scale. Featuring DuPont hard nylon strings. Includes case and tuning tool. According to Greek mythology, Hermes created a lyre-like instrument from the shell of a large tortoise. He stretched animal hide over the shell opening and attached antelope horns as posts. A similar instrument with a skin soundboard called the baganna, is a large eight or ten-string lyre, made of a trapezoidal wooden frame fitted with a skin soundboard. Some believe this is the instrument King David played to temper the ravings of King Saul. The baganna's bass vibrations are said to bring peace to the soul. The instrument, associated with the Ethiopian Coptic Church since the 4th century, was played primarily at Christmas and Lent. SPECIAL NOTE: No Warranty on Strings. PSA032   $287.10

Giant Sistrum Traditionally the sistrum is a hand-held, somewhat diminutive instrument that nonetheless produces considerable sound.
Never before has a sistrum been capable of such projection, range, and diversity of sounds. Perfect for outdoor occasions like drum circles and festivals, the giant sistrum will always command attention and can easily set the rhythm for any percussive event.

Constructed of solid quality tone-hardwoods, the giant sistrum measures eight inches at its widest and a full 40 inches in length. Twelve steel jingles are capable of producing an almost infinite variety of percussive sounds; from a delicate rustling, to a dramatic crash.

'Stomping' the rubber-capped staff section of the sistrum against the ground makes an intriguingly complex sound. Due to its exceptionally long length many other unique sounds can be produced, sounds that would not be possible with a standard sistrum or any other instrument.
