Irish Tenor Banjo IT-250 Maple rim and neck, white ladye tone ring, MOP headstock inlay, heart and flower position markers, two way adjustable truss rod, chrome plated hardware, short scale tenor, designed to play in common keys. Scale 22-5/8 inches. Very similar to a tenor banjo, but uses a seventeen fret neck instead of the nineteen fret neck. The shorter neck allows a higher tuning so the songs are better suited to the keys of Irish music (G, D, A, etc.) The style is played with a plectrum and often played with rapid single string melodies. Normally you do not use a resonator as the sound desired is mellow but with a quick attack. The Irish Tenor is regaining popular in the USA as many mandolin players use it as an alternative instrument. In this style the string gauges are much thicker and the instrument is tuned an octave lower than a mandolin. Our banjos are made out of solid Cherry wood, with a lovely contrasting hardwood veneer on the fretboard and peghead. Our wooden rim is constructed of 3 thicknesses of 3/4 inch wood, for strength. An attractive bead pattern is turned into the rim with our trusty shop lathe. A stretched goat skin pot is inserted for that "just right" obnoxious twang, so necessary to banjos. Our standard banjo has frets, 5 steel strings, and a 27-inch fret scale. This banjo will ship directly from the maker to our domestic customers.
